The Answer Is Simpler Than You Think

So what's the solution? It's not always using the market leader, Lonza, for every single item. Sometimes you need a very specific, small-volume custom chemical. But the principle is universal: don't buy on price; buy on total cost.

Focus your energy on the risk factors. When I consolidated our orders for 400 employees across 3 locations (different facilities needing different media), using a reliable source cut our ordering time from 20 hours a month to 10 and eliminated the ‘which spec was that?’ problem we used to have.
